15th November 2006 – Cyberbullying Workshop

The Cyberspace Research Unit is hosting a half-day workshop on Cyberbullying at the University of Central Lancashire (Preston) at 1.30pm on the afternoon of 15th November 2006. We are inviting a range of people from Lancashire LEA, the ABA, Safeguarding Children’s Board, local government figures, as well as key industry figures from mobile phone and social networking backgrounds. This is part of a Cyberspace Research Unit (we are part of the new DfES Cyberbullying taskforce) initiative to undertake a local audit of cyberbullying issues. We will also be inviting a panel of parents and children who have been affected to come along and tell us what they want in terms of risk reduction strategies, awareness materials and support/reporting mechanisms.

Our new ‘University Certificate in Child Safety on the Internet’ has successfully been validated by the Cyberspace Research Unit in tandem with the University of Central Lancashire. It is a 14 week distance learning course for teachers, education and child services professionals.

US Department of Justice Looks to Extend Website Accessibility Rights

State and Local Governments and Private Sector to be Included in New Regulations

On Friday, July 23, 2010, the United States Department of Justice issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) to help inform the Department on new regulations clarifying how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should apply to the internet and websites.
